About the position

The Mechatronics/Electro-Mechanical Lead Engineer will have broad ownership of hardware design and manufacturing of systems, fixtures, and prototypes in support of product development and validation teams. This role involves designing mechatronics and electromechanical fixtures and systems specifically for internal system validation testing of consumer wearable devices. The engineer will be responsible for developing specifications and project plans to execute designs, working closely with product designers and cross-functional teams to ensure that all requirements are incorporated into the specifications. As both a team lead and an individual contributor, the engineer will conduct detailed design work, create 3D models and drawings, and drive design reviews. This position requires a strong technical background, particularly in the areas of high precision mechanisms and electromechanical assemblies. The engineer will utilize advanced surfacing techniques in NX and will be expected to have expertise in various manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, forging, and die casting. A solid understanding of tolerances and tolerance analysis as it relates to fixture design and implementation is also essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of product life cycle management, especially during the early stages of development, production, and launch. They will be expected to write technical reports and present findings at technical reviews, demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills. The role demands the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel, ensuring clarity and understanding across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Broad ownership of hardware design and manufacturing of systems, fixtures, and prototypes.
  • Design mechatronics and electromechanical fixtures/systems for internal system validation testing of consumer wearable devices.
  • Develop specifications and project plans to execute designs by collaborating with product designers and cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct detailed design work as both a team lead and individual contributor.
  • Create 3D models and drawings, and drive design reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience.
  • Proven experience designing high precision mechanisms and electromechanical assemblies and systems.
  • Fluent in NX and advanced surfacing techniques.
  • Expertise in various manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, forging, and die casting.
  • Understanding of tolerances and tolerance analysis as it relates to fixture design and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of product life cycle management, especially in early stage development and production and launch.
  • Previous team lead experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Experience in technical documentation and report generation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Past experience in making production drawings for consumer electronics in NX.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to quickly make tradeoff decisions to drive progress based on engineering fundamentals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in designing 3D plastic and metal parts for various manufacturing techniques.
  • Mass production experience.
  • Able to work under tight time constraints to meet schedules and manufacturing deadlines.
  • Flexible with the ability to work in a dynamic and rapid-paced workplace with minimal supervision.
  • Data analysis and visualization experience (matlab, python, JMP).
  • Familiarity with project and process planning techniques such as DFSS, V-Models, Gantt charts, or other similar tools.
