About the position

dormakaba is seeking a Mechatronics Test Engineer - ANSI Door Hardware based in Indianapolis, IN. The Mechatronics Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and quality of our mechatronic systems. They will develop test plans and strategies for evaluating the performance, reliability, and safety of mechatronic systems in compliance with relevant standards or regulations and will understand the system requirements and define appropriate testing methodologies. This role involves a comprehensive approach to testing, including the design and construction of test fixtures that simulate real-world operating conditions, conducting tests on various components and systems, and analyzing results to identify areas for improvement. The engineer will also be tasked with developing automated testing solutions to enhance efficiency in the testing process. The position requires a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles, as well as proficiency in various testing methodologies and tools. The ideal candidate will have a background in mechatronics testing, preferably within a product development environment, and will be expected to document test procedures, results, and findings clearly to align with ISO certified processes. This role is crucial in ensuring that our mechatronic systems meet the highest standards of quality and performance, contributing to the overall mission of dormakaba to provide secure and sustainable access solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans and strategies for evaluating the performance, reliability, and safety of mechatronic systems in compliance with relevant standards or regulations.
  • Design and build test fixtures and setups to simulate real-world operating conditions.
  • Conduct tests on mechatronic components, subsystems, and integrated systems to verify their functionality and performance while adhering to testing protocols and procedures.
  • Analyze test results and data to identify issues, defects, or areas for improvement in mechatronic systems by interpreting data from sensors, actuators, and other measurement devices.
  • Develop automated testing solutions to streamline the testing process and improve efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechatronics testing, preferably in a product development environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in testing methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in pneumatic control systems, hydraulic control systems, electronic programming systems, and PLC programming.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering or Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting languages.
  • Experience with metal machining tools, 3 axis manual mill, drill press, sanders, hand tools, machining and 3D printing.
