Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests such as taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
  • Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens as needed.
  • Assists physicians and other staff during patient encounters.
  • Selects appropriate equipment prior to collection to streamline processes.
  • Verifies specimen orders per department policy and prepares exam rooms for patient encounters.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing performed.
  • Performs clerical duties including patient registration, answering phones, and scheduling appointments.
  • Documents medical information in electronic medical records, including medication and refill information.
  • Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional manner.
  • Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests following established policies and procedures.
  • Assists in front office functions including claim creation and discharge paperwork.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Current certification from a recognized certifying body such as AAMA or NCMA.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • BLS Certification is a plus.
