About the position
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT/MLS) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care at Union Health. This position involves performing laboratory tests, specimen collection, and ensuring accurate reporting of results, all while maintaining a commitment to compassionate service and quality care for the Wabash Valley Communities.
Responsibilities
- Perform and report laboratory tests, including waived and moderate complexity tests using various testing systems.
- Prepare and transport specimens for in-house testing and referral to reference laboratories, ensuring proper verification and labeling.
- Maintain quality control and assurance records according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
- Prepare and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment, performing maintenance as per guidelines.
- Collect patient blood specimens and other types, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for processing and reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training in medical laboratory procedures.
- ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
- Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for testing personnel performing moderately complex testing.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
