About the position

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT/MLS) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care at Union Health. This position involves performing laboratory tests, specimen collection, and ensuring accurate reporting of results, all while maintaining a commitment to compassionate service and quality care for the Wabash Valley Communities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report laboratory tests, including waived and moderate complexity tests using various testing systems.
  • Prepare and transport specimens for in-house testing and referral to reference laboratories, ensuring proper verification and labeling.
  • Maintain quality control and assurance records according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment, performing maintenance as per guidelines.
  • Collect patient blood specimens and other types, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for processing and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training in medical laboratory procedures.
  • ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for testing personnel performing moderately complex testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
