About the position

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT / MLS) at Union Health plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care through laboratory services. This position involves performing laboratory tests, specimen collection, and ensuring accurate reporting of results, all while maintaining a commitment to compassionate service and community health.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report laboratory tests using automated, semi-automated, and manual test systems and kits.
  • Prepare specimens for in-house testing and for referral to reference laboratories, including verification of specimen ID and labeling.
  • Maintain records of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and calibrate instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy of tests, and perform periodic maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Collect patient blood specimens and other specimen types, and use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data entry and result reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training.
  • ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for testing personnel performing moderately complex testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
