About the position
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT / MLS) at Union Health plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care through laboratory services. This position involves performing laboratory tests, specimen collection, and ensuring accurate reporting of results, all while maintaining a commitment to compassionate service and community health.
Responsibilities
- Perform and report laboratory tests using automated, semi-automated, and manual test systems and kits.
- Prepare specimens for in-house testing and for referral to reference laboratories, including verification of specimen ID and labeling.
- Maintain records of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
- Prepare and calibrate instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy of tests, and perform periodic maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Collect patient blood specimens and other specimen types, and use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data entry and result reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training.
- ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
- Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for testing personnel performing moderately complex testing.
