About the position

At Shire Senior Living, we are seeking dedicated and responsible individuals for the Medication Tech position. This role is crucial in providing support to our residents by ensuring they receive their medications and treatments safely and effectively. As a Medication Tech, you will be responsible for the daily encouragement, supervision, and observation of residents as they self-administer their medications. You will play a vital role in creating a safe environment for our residents, which includes monitoring their mental status, fall precautions, and providing first aid when necessary. The position requires you to document all medication acceptance and refusals accurately within our electronic medical record system. You will also be responsible for explaining care procedures to residents before performing them, ensuring they understand the process. Additionally, you will provide reminders for meals and medications, treating residents and their families with the utmost respect and dignity. It is essential to recognize and report any potential abuse or neglect, ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents. You will also be tasked with ordering, organizing, and reviewing medications, providing feedback and suggestions when changes occur, and communicating effectively with the pharmacy. Reporting any changes in the residents' mental and physical conditions to your supervisor is critical, as is meeting current documentation standards and policies. You will need to follow through on information provided during shift reports and work collaboratively with pharmacy, MD offices, and residents to ensure timely receipt of medication and service scripts. This position is available for both part-time and full-time shifts, with day and evening options.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with and monitors the self-administration of medications by residents
  • Encourages and reinforces the need for a safe environment related to equipment, mental status changes, fall precautions, and first aid
  • Properly documents within the electronic medical record the acceptance and/or refusal of self-medication
  • Explains all care procedures to residents prior to performance
  • Provides reminders for meals and medications
  • Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity
  • Recognizes and reports any potential abuse or neglect
  • Responsible for ordering, organizing, and reviewing medications
  • Provides feedback and suggestions when changes occur in medications and communicates effectively with pharmacy
  • Reports any change in the patient's mental and physical condition to supervisor
  • Meets current documentation standards and policies
  • Follows through on information given by shift report, resident, or family regarding suggestions, changes, or concerns
  • Demonstrates competence in technical and manual skills according to scope of practice
  • Functions as a resident advocate by protecting and ensuring residents' rights
  • Works collaboratively with the pharmacy, MD offices, and residents to ensure timely receipt of medication and service scripts.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of resident's rights
  • Ability to document accurately in electronic medical records
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals

Nice-to-haves

  • Pharmacy Technician certification
