About the position

The Med Tech position at MorningStar Senior Living in Santa Fe is a vital role within our senior living community, where the focus is on providing exceptional care to our residents. As a Med Care Manager/QMAP, you will be responsible for administering, pouring, passing, and documenting all routinely prescribed medications according to physician orders and state regulations. This role requires a compassionate individual who can connect with residents, understanding their unique preferences and needs when it comes to medication administration. In this position, you will work closely with the Wellness Director to ensure that all medications are ordered and available for residents, maintaining a proactive approach to medication management. You will document all medication administration accurately and promptly, observing the five rights of medication administration to ensure safety. Additionally, you will monitor residents for any reactions or side effects from medications and report these to the licensed nurse. Your role will also involve taking and recording vital signs as necessary, assisting with the development and review of resident care plans, and ensuring the dignity and comfort of all residents. The Med Tech position is not just about medication management; it also involves providing holistic care to residents, assisting with daily living activities such as grooming, bathing, and feeding. You will be expected to create a safe and supportive environment, detecting and reporting any unsafe conditions that may pose a risk to residents. This role is essential in fostering a nurturing atmosphere where residents feel valued and cared for, aligning with our core values of love, kindness, honesty, goodness, fairness, and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and document regularly prescribed medications per the Medication Administration record.
  • Order medications from the pharmacy as prescribed, ensuring timely availability.
  • Document medications given immediately after administration in the resident's medical record.
  • Observe and report reactions and side effects of medications to the licensed nurse.
  • Take and record vital signs prior to administering medications that may affect them.
  • Administer PRN medications as per physician orders.
  • Report any medication errors to the Wellness Director immediately.
  • Assist in the development and review of resident care plans with other disciplines.
  • Ensure residents' privacy, respect, and dignity are maintained.
  • Detect, correct, and report unsafe conditions that may harm residents.
  • Assure the physical comfort, safety, and mental well-being of residents.
  • Assist with daily living tasks such as toileting, grooming, bathing, feeding, and dressing.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of state-approved Medication Administration training.
  • First Aid certification as required by ALF regulations.
  • QMAP certification in the state of Colorado.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; prefer some previous healthcare experience.
  • Experience working in Assisted Living or Memory Care with a good work record.
  • Experience administering medication in an assisted living setting.
  • Ability to read and write in English and interpret safety rules and instructions.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Minimum three years' experience in senior living preferred.
