About the position
The Medi-Cal Biller at UCLA Health is responsible for accurately processing inpatient and outpatient claims to various payers, including government and commercial entities. This role requires a strong understanding of billing guidelines, payer contracts, and the ability to perform tasks within patient accounting systems while adhering to timely filing guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Accurately processing inpatient and outpatient claims to all payers, specifically government and commercial payers.
- Interpreting payer contracts and processing contractual adjustments.
- Knowledge of late charge process and primary, secondary, and tertiary billing.
- Verifying benefits and eligibility for claims.
- Applying all mandated billing guidelines and meeting timely filing guidelines.
- Performing all required duties within the patient accounting systems.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in hospital billing.
- Knowledge of billing guidelines and reimbursement issues.
- Familiarity with UB04 and 1500 billing forms.
- Understanding of revenue codes, CPT, HCPCS, diagnosis, and procedure codes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Skill in basic arithmetic operations with a calculator.
- Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures.
