About the position

The Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies seeks an engineer to provide technical support for its media facilities and operations. The School's broadcast facility includes academic instruction, UNLV TV, KUNV Radio, and the Rebel Media Group student social media agency. The media engineer's duties include the following: 1) providing on-call, direct, technical support to students, faculty and staff productions, programs, and facilities; 2) administering, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing various media production systems; 3) working with professional media staff to maintain the facility's core infrastructure (including SMPTE fiber), studios, control rooms, auditorium, and post-production facilities; 4) collaborating with KUNV operations manager and broadcast engineer to maintain FM and HD radio broadcast systems, transmitters, studios, and audio production systems; 5) coordinating with the UNLV Office of Information Technology units responsible for computer labs, auditorium, A/V technology (including Avid), networking, servers, and storage; 6) developing, designing, and installing new media production systems; and 7) maintaining studio and facility CAD drawings. Knowledge of electronic circuits, IP networks, Avid Media Composer, and RF transmission systems (basic) is required. Knowledge of UPS power systems and generators is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information technology, broadcasting or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience as a media engineer.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits, IP networks, Avid Media Composer, and RF transmission systems (basic).
