About the position

The Media Engineer II position at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology focuses on the sustainment and operational support of media production and distribution systems. This role is essential for ensuring the efficiency, uptime, and overall stability of technical environments related to live media production. Media Engineers are responsible for troubleshooting, system maintenance, and participating in complex engineering projects, all while working in a fast-paced environment that demands critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve issues affecting production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple DEE networks.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to solve routine, specialized, and complex problems.
  • Utilize system health and performance monitoring software to troubleshoot and repair system problems and failures.
  • Manage third-party service providers and enforce service agreements.
  • Provide operational support for audio and video production/distribution systems across the enterprise.
  • Perform upgrades to system hardware and software workflows under supervision.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance on broadcast systems and equipment.
  • Participate in complex engineering projects at the direction of more experienced engineers.
  • Review, maintain, and contribute to system/workflow documentation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in live media production and distribution environments.
  • Proficient with microservices, DevOps tools, and design principles.
  • Scripting proficiency in Python, NodeJS, Bash, or PowerShell is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments.
  • Experience with on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms.
  • Foundational cloud certification required (e.g., Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, CompTIA Cloud+, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate).
  • Knowledge of compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS.
  • Experience with Evertz software control systems and major media systems.
