About the position

The Medic position at Trident Seafoods involves providing medical support and care for employees who are ill or injured on board vessels. The role requires assessing medical conditions, responding to emergencies, and managing health-related issues in a pre-hospital setting. The Medic acts as a liaison between patients and corporate entities, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with health regulations while maintaining a clean and organized medical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides competent, compassionate, and timely medical treatment to crew and employees of the vessel.
  • Evaluates, assesses, and treats all reported medical illnesses and injuries.
  • Responds to all medical emergencies.
  • Reports all occupational illnesses and injuries to the corporate claims representative, records and submits appropriate claims and insurance forms.
  • Administers over-the-counter medicines as needed.
  • Performs DOT urine drug screen collections in accordance with CFR Part 40 procedures for routine random screenings and in association with all reported injuries/accidents.
  • Performs non-DOT periodic drug tests for the company drug testing program and administers alcohol tests.
  • Maintains daily logs and reports for all patients seen and for all injuries.
  • Records and archives all records and documentation in accordance with HIPPA rules.
  • Reports, maintains, and records all work-related illnesses and injuries on appropriate OSHA forms.
  • Acts as the medical liaison between the patient and corporate entities regarding all shipboard medical problems.
  • Responsible for providing emergency medical assessment and care for crew in a pre-hospital setting, and for managing health-related issues onboard.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of consumable medicines and treatment supplies, performs inventory, and orders supplies as needed.
  • Manages the ship store, orders provisions, and maintains inventory as well as maintains accounts and records for all crew using this service.
  • Maintains a clean, healthy, well-organized work environment that presents a professional medical appearance.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented.

Requirements

  • Nationally registered paramedic with current ACLS Certification and/or medical equivalent (e.g., RN with trauma experience and current ACLS).
  • Five years' experience in a relevant medical field.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic math operations and interpret data.
  • Knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software, and presentation software.
