About the position

The Medicaid Specialist/Paralegal will support the legal and compliance team in managing Medicaid-related matters for clients. This role involves assisting with Medicaid eligibility, documentation, and compliance issues, while providing legal support for Medicaid-related cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Medicaid regulations and legal processes, and will be responsible for managing complex cases effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in understanding and applying for Medicaid benefits, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to state and federal guidelines.
  • Review and analyze Medicaid applications to determine eligibility and potential issues that may impact approval.
  • Research Medicaid policies, regulations, and procedures to provide accurate and timely advice to clients and legal teams.
  • Organize and maintain case files, records, and Medicaid-related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  • Draft correspondence, legal documents, and other materials required for Medicaid appeals, hearings, and other proceedings.
  • Coordinate and follow up on the submission of Medicaid applications, renewals, and appeals.
  • Assist attorneys with Medicaid-related litigation, including preparation for hearings, discovery, and client representation.
  • Help prepare legal briefs, memoranda, and other documents related to Medicaid law and policy.
  • Review and summarize case law, statutes, and regulations to support legal strategies and arguments.
  • Communicate with clients regarding the status of their Medicaid applications, eligibility determination, and any issues or delays.
  • Educate clients about Medicaid benefits, rights, and the appeal process as necessary.
  • Ensure all Medicaid-related activities comply with relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assist in audits, quality assurance checks, and any internal or external reviews of Medicaid-related processes.
  • Manage case deadlines and ensure timely submission of Medicaid documents and filings.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of client interactions and case progress.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with Medicaid, healthcare law, or in a legal/administrative setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicaid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to conduct legal research and summarize findings effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal management software.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is preferred but not required.
