About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Orthopaedic Associates of Southern California involves providing high-quality patient care in a team environment. The role includes assisting with procedure set-up, responding to patient messages, completing patient forms, data entry, scheduling appointments, and performing various medical duties as directed by physicians. Responsibilities

  • Prepares for the day by ensuring all medical records, test results, and films are available for the physician.
  • Assures exam rooms are clean and ready for the next patient; prepares rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms and back to check-out after the exam.
  • Prepares patients for exam or treatment by taking vitals.
  • Assists physicians during examinations and minor procedures as directed, including suture/stitch removal and dressing applications.
  • Documents all patient correspondence in OfficeAlly, whether in person, by phone, fax, or e-mail.
  • Changes patient's appointment status in EHR during visit/treatment.
  • Orders and maintains supplies from company-approved vendors; stocks exam rooms and maintains equipment for patient treatment.
  • Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Reviews pharmacy requests for prescription refills according to physician protocol.
  • Presents abnormal test results to the physician for immediate review.
  • Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory.
  • Cleans and closes down sterilization equipment at the end of the day.
  • Provides internal office staff and workers' compensation adjusters with work status reports and other clinical information as requested.
  • Verifies HMO insurance eligibility daily to ensure patients are covered for the current month.
  • Completes patient disability forms for physician approval.
  • Scans/files patient documents into OfficeAlly.
  • Complies with governmental protocols to ensure the safety of patients and employees.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as a medical assistant (preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant certification
  • Knowledge of ICD10 and CPT Codes
  • Working knowledge of practice management and word processing software
  • Experience with EMR (OfficeAlly preferred)
  • Knowledge of human anatomy
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, or Korean
  • Orthopedic knowledge preferred
