About the position

The Medical Assistant Apprentice position at Orlando Health is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant program and are looking to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting. This role is part-time and provides an opportunity to perform patient care in an ambulatory clinic under the direct supervision of a Certified Medical Assistant, Physician, or Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The apprentice will work collaboratively with clinic staff and follow the guidance of the Office Manager, Supervisor, Academic Program Manager, and Certified Medical Assistant Preceptor. This position is ideal for those who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a supportive environment while contributing to patient care. As a Medical Assistant Apprentice, you will be responsible for gathering patient data through interviews and observations, assisting patients and families in preparing for examinations, and supporting physicians during examinations and procedures. You will also be tasked with documenting patient information according to Orlando Health's policies and guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality. This role emphasizes the importance of following standard precautions, hand hygiene, and personal protective equipment (PPE) procedures. Regular attendance and compliance with Orlando Health policies are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the clinic and operational staff and follows the directions of the Office Manager or Supervisor, Academic Program Manager and Certified Medical Assistant Preceptor.
  • Gathers patient data through interview and observation under direct supervision.
  • Provides routine patient care under direct supervision, consistent with the educational level and skill learned in the academic setting.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examination under direct supervision.
  • Assists physician during examination and procedures under direct supervision.
  • Performs skills after achievement and demonstrated competencies.
  • Responsible for documenting information under direct supervision according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Practices efficient use of supplies.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls and patient requests under direct supervision.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Assures patient privacy, rights and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions and adheres to hand hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant program affiliated with the organization.
  • Must obtain BLS/Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days of hire.
  • No prior experience is required.
