About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) at WellMed Courtyard Plaza plays a crucial role in providing patient care and support within a clinical environment. This position involves performing various medical tasks under the supervision of healthcare providers, ensuring high standards of care, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The MA is responsible for organizing the clinical setting, assisting with patient examinations, and delivering quality customer service while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests), removes staples from superficial wounds, changes wound dressings, and obtains cultures.
  • Administers non-intravenous medication and performs simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques.
  • Collects blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary methods and performs EKGs.
  • Conducts quality control checks on equipment and prepares/sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
  • Rooms patients according to policy and procedures and prepares them for examination.
  • Records patient care documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians, company standards, and policies.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and treats patients with courtesy and respect.
  • Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Practices standard infection control precautions and supports Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain it within 180 days of employment.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Proven good communication and customer service skills.
  • Tuberculosis screening and proof of immunity to certain diseases required.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Proven knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Bilingual.
