About the position

The Medical Assistant (Bilingual) at Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center plays a crucial role in providing continuity of care to patients under the supervision of licensed personnel. This position involves both clinical and administrative duties, supporting physicians, nurses, and administrative staff within the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care and Specialty Clinics. The Medical Assistant is responsible for obtaining medical histories, vital signs, assisting with laboratory procedures, and performing clerical tasks to ensure efficient patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical history and vital signs, accurately documenting them.
  • Review patient medical records for completeness and assist patients in completing relevant forms.
  • Prepare patient rooms for medical visits and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as answering phones, sorting medical charts, and scheduling appointments.
  • Perform laboratory procedures including finger stick glucose, veni-puncture, and EKGs.
  • Assist physicians with physical exams and minor surgical procedures, documenting all medical administration accurately.
  • Communicate patient needs to providers and support referral processes for diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure secure storage of medication samples.
  • Perform equipment sterilization and maintain clinical equipment, reporting malfunctions as necessary.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • Certificate as a Medical Assistant from recognized organizations (AAMA, AMT, NHA, etc.).
  • CPR Certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Bilingual proficiency.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of full-time work experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related clinical capacity.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
