About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Optum involves providing routine patient care under the supervision of a physician or clinical supervisor. This role is essential in ensuring quality patient interactions and support, particularly for bilingual individuals fluent in English and Spanish. The Medical Assistant will perform various clinical tasks, assist in patient education, and maintain communication with patients regarding their care.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit superior customer service and communication skills with all internal and external customers.
• Administer medications, immunizations, EKGs, ear washes, and other patient services under physician supervision.
• Assist in simple office and minor surgical procedures as directed.
• Educate patients and/or families as directed by the physician.
• Perform venipuncture under the direction of a physician or advanced care practitioner.
• Contact patients to provide testing results and schedule necessary visits.
• Answer telephone inquiries and triage calls effectively.
• Manage all laboratory duties including drawing, spinning, prepping blood for testing, and maintaining logs.
• Act as a liaison between independent lab services and the center.

Requirements

• High school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA) or CPR/AED certification at time of hire or within 30 days.
• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain it within 180 days of employment.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Nice-to-haves

• 2+ years of relevant back office medical assisting experience.
• Solid phlebotomy skills.
