About the position

The Medical Assistant at Sage Health plays a crucial role in providing care to patients under the direction of physicians. This position involves preparing patients for examinations, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests, and maintaining accurate electronic health records. The Medical Assistant is expected to demonstrate professionalism and engage with team members to ensure high-quality patient care, particularly for geriatric populations.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and interview them to obtain medical history.
  • Measure and document vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature in the electronic health record.
  • Ensure all related reports and labs are available in patients' electronic health records prior to appointments.
  • Safeguard patient information and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient examinations and assist physicians during exams.
  • Assist primary care physicians in executing virtual appointments in patients' homes.
  • Disinfect and clean exam rooms following patient examinations.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following policies and legal regulations.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with medical supplies and maintain instruments.
  • Inventory stock, place orders, and verify receipt of supplies.
  • Maintain logs and required checks for medical supplies and equipment.
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.
  • Make calls to pharmacies and diagnostic facilities as required.
  • Draw blood, remove sutures, and change dressings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • CPR and first aid certification required; CMA/RMA preferred.
  • Experience with EMR, MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • Phlebotomy skills (blood draw) required.
  • Professional demeanor and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and problem-solve effectively.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with an electronic health record.
  • Experience performing toenail clipping/trimming.
  • Experience in a medical office setting.
  • Experience working in medically underserved or culturally diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-20/CPT coding.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
