About the position

As a Medical Assistant at Banner Health, you will play a vital role in the East Valley Cardiology Clinic, located in Chandler, Arizona. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional patient care and are eager to contribute to the healthcare community. You will be working directly with patients and their families, assisting them after check-in and throughout their visit. Your responsibilities will include preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and documenting their medical history and symptoms. You will also assist healthcare providers during exams and minor procedures, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care. In this role, you will coordinate and manage patient care, which includes handling pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling appointments for various medical treatments and tests. You will be responsible for communicating test results to patients and acting as a resource for clinicians to optimize patient care. Additionally, you will provide clerical support by maintaining accurate medical records and ensuring timely billing processes. Maintaining a clean and functional environment is crucial, as you will be responsible for disinfecting equipment and exam rooms, following OSHA guidelines, and performing basic maintenance on medical equipment. You will also be tasked with ordering supplies and stocking patient care areas. Effective communication with both internal and external customers is essential, as you will interact with various healthcare professionals, patients, and families. This position requires you to work under the direct supervision of healthcare providers and to complete all necessary onboarding and training activities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for exams and treatments by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements.
  • Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including taking blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs.
  • Coordinates and manages patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling of patients for clinic and hospital treatments.
  • Provides clerical support with patient notifications and documentation, ensuring complete medical records and timely billing information.
  • Maintains a clean and functional environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and exam rooms, and following sterilization procedures.
  • Orders supplies as directed and stocks patient care areas, managing medication ordering and tasks related to medications.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with all external and internal customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
  • Completes all necessary onboarding and orientation activities, including simulation training as needed.

Requirements

  • MA Diploma from an accredited MA school.
  • BLS Provider certification (in person, Banner approved).
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification (RMA, CMA, CCMA, or NCMA) with proof of current membership from respective organizations.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an organized fashion.

Nice-to-haves

  • MA National Certification from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance and managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
