About the position

The Medical Assistant position at Wellstar Health System involves performing patient care duties under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers. The role is primarily focused on clinical responsibilities in an outpatient setting, including obtaining vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with diagnostic tests. The position requires a blend of clinical skills and patient interaction, ensuring a supportive environment for patients during their visits.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned patient care duties under the direction of a licensed provider or RN.
• Obtain vital signs, height and weight, and medical history from patients.
• Update allergies and medications in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Perform EKGs, ABIs, and other diagnostic tests as required.
• Answer triage nurse line and provide timely information to callers.
• Document patient interactions and requests in PowerChart.
• Assist physicians with exams and procedures, preparing rooms with necessary supplies.
• Provide education and emotional support to patients during procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and medical supplies.
• Perform front office duties such as registration, scheduling, and payment collection.

Requirements

• CCMA Certification or equivalent certification as a Medical Assistant.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
• Experience with phlebotomy and EKG procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a specialty relevant to the position.
• BLS Instructor Certification.
