About the position

The Medical Assistant at Wellstar Medical Group/Griffin OBGYN plays a crucial role in providing patient care under the direction of healthcare professionals. This position involves preparing patients for examinations, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests, and ensuring proper documentation of patient care. The Medical Assistant is expected to demonstrate competency in serving patients across all age groups and to perform various clinical and non-clinical duties effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients upon entrance to the facility.
  • Perform all necessary registration operations.
  • Prepare equipment and rooms and assist the physician with patient treatment.
  • Take vital signs and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Rotate among various clinical and non-clinical service areas such as lab, x-ray, and front office.
  • Address the safety needs of patients.
  • Cross-train other team members in various functions.
  • Perform radiographic and other diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures, ensuring radiation protection.
  • Process images and review for proper identification and quality control.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and documentation for imaging procedures.
  • Start lab equipment daily and maintain logs and documentation.
  • Perform laboratory tests according to orders and instructions.
  • Draw blood samples and perform Point of Care testing.
  • Order and stock supplies weekly for the lab.
  • Perform daily quality control and cleaning procedures in the lab.
  • Provide relationship-based patient-centered care that reflects cultural diversity.
  • Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care.
  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
  • Promote evidence-based practice in patient care and participate in data collection.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Work experience in a practice setting preferred.
  • Specific experience in practice specialty may be required.
  • Radiology experience preferred, with training provided within the first sixty days.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred, with training provided within the first sixty days.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a practice setting related to the specialty.
