About the position

The position involves performing a variety of front and back office clerical duties in support of the assigned area, including patient data collection, medical history acquisition, treatment procedures, and appointment scheduling. The role emphasizes patient safety and customer service, requiring adherence to hospital policies and procedures while ensuring a sanitary work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve safety through questioning current policies and processes.
  • Perform basic cashiering duties, collect payments, and balance the cash register.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment situations that seem unclear.
  • Assist in the preparation of patient care, including admission, transfer, and discharge processes; phone in prescriptions; assist providers with treatment procedures.
  • Perform routine non-invasive treatment procedures and may perform invasive procedures such as phlebotomy and EKGs.
  • Perform basic patient initial screening, record vital signs, and report changes in patient conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Enter various data into computer systems, verify data accuracy, schedule appointments, and manage phone communications.
  • Maintain a sanitary work area, report equipment problems, and manage supply levels.
  • Provide quality service and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Administer medications and document clinical findings after completing the required training course.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or 2 years of Medical Assistant experience as indicated on DD Form 214.
  • Completion of the UNMH MA Safe Medication Administration Course within 90 days.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers certification within 30 days.
  • CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo.
  • 1 year of directly related experience.
