The Medical Assistant - Clinical Float position involves performing a variety of patient care activities to assist providers and nurses. Essential functions include greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms using appropriate procedures and in a timely fashion, taking vital signs, and assisting patients in patient flow through the office. The role also requires preparing exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing, stocking supplies, sterilizing instruments when used or assigned, and labeling and maintaining proper storage for specimens and tests. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will deliver tests and obtain results, assist providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed, schedule patients for testing procedures, and process prescription refills as directed by the provider. Observing, recording, and reporting patients' conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments to physicians is also a critical part of the job. The Medical Assistant will administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed, work with the clinical inbox of the provider, perform and report in-house lab testing, and effectively navigate and document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The position also involves performing telephone triage per established guidelines, attending required meetings, maintaining patient confidentiality, performing Breath Alcohol tests, and managing Worker's Comp referrals as needed. Familiarity with the paperwork for Immigration and DOT pre-employment physicals is also required. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in a timely manner, and it requires a commitment to maintaining quality control standards and reacting calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and escorts patients to exam room using appropriate procedures and in a timely fashion.

  • Attends required meetings, in-services and participates in committee work as requested.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs Breath Alcohol tests.
  • Completes and manages Worker's Comp referrals as needed.
  • Ability to input and navigate DOT national registry.
  • Has familiarity with the paperwork for Immigration and DOT pre-employment physicals.
  • Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited medical assisting or nursing program.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in an outpatient medical office using an EHR, preferred.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Skill in taking vital signs.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assisting Degree or Diploma from accredited Allied Health Professional Education Institution or valid Nursing License in the state of TN, if applicable.
  • DOT BAT Certification and Professional Collector Certification preferred.
  • CPR certification.
