About the position
The Medical Assistant position at Michigan Medicine offers an opportunity to utilize medical assistant skills in a dynamic outpatient environment. The role involves building relationships with patients and performing a variety of hands-on tasks across different clinical settings, including pediatrics, adult care, and geriatrics. This position is integral to supporting patient care and enhancing the overall patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and perform standard patient intake including vitals.
- Assist with minor clinical office procedures.
- Perform standard medical laboratory/Point of Care (POC) testing.
- Administer medications/immunizations, injections as directed.
- Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures.
- Coordinate patient care with outside health agencies.
- Complete general administrative duties as assigned, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Disability and Return to Work forms, and Electronic Medical Record in-basket messages.
- Complete other clinical and non-clinical duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of patient care related education and patient care experience.
- 0-1 years of patient care experience for an Assistant level.
- 1-3 years of patient care experience for an Associate level.
- Knowledge of basic Medical Terminology.
- Moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or (RMA).
- Experience working within a large complex outpatient health care setting.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records system.
