About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in the patient care team at Middlesex Health, providing essential clinical and administrative support under the direction of the Practice Manager. The MA is responsible for ensuring timely and effective patient care while maintaining strict confidentiality. This position involves direct patient interaction, assisting providers during exams, and managing various clerical duties to facilitate smooth operations within the practice.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients to the practice and escort them to the exam room.
• Interview patients to verify the reason for their visit and obtain medical information.
• Measure patients' vital signs, height, and weight, and document this information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Confirm and record allergies, current medications, and pharmacy of choice.
• Assist the provider with patient exams and procedures as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy and collect blood and other specimens for lab delivery.
• Document procedures and results in the EHR.
• Perform routine in-office laboratory tests and document results in the EHR.
• Prepare treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked, and sterilize instruments.
• Manage patient messages and prepare prescription refill documents for provider review.
• Schedule patient appointments and prepare referrals for specialists and hospital services.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
• Excellent customer service and communication skills

Nice-to-haves

• 1 year experience working with electronic health records
• 1 year office-based physician practice experience
• Medical Assisting Certification
