As a member of the health care team, the Medical Assistant Lead provides clinical oversight and guidance at large multi-site practices. This role involves overseeing the onboarding process for newly hired medical assistants and educating them on new workflows, policies, and procedures. The Medical Assistant Lead coordinates the schedules of medical assistants and works closely with Practice Management to provide ongoing education as needed. This position requires a strong focus on leadership, as the Medical Assistant Lead continually assesses the clinical skills of the medical assistants and recommends additional training or reeducation as appropriate. The Medical Assistant Lead is responsible for overseeing the training and onboarding process for newly hired medical assistants, students, and interns. Continuous training is provided to ensure that all medical assistants are up to date with new workflows and clinical office policies. The lead serves as a champion for patient satisfaction, medical assistant development, and positive employee relations. They also provide clinical oversight and serve as a resource for medical assistants, offering meaningful feedback for performance reviews and preparing staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage. In addition, the Medical Assistant Lead acts as an electronic health record (EHR) superuser, communicating and educating staff on new workflows related to their roles. They are responsible for accurately documenting all pertinent details in the EHR, including patient interactions, medication lists, and social histories. The lead prepares and rooms patients according to standardized workflows, obtains vital signs, and documents patient information accurately. They assist in coordinating patient care under the supervision of healthcare providers and provide guidance to medical assistants regarding essential functions. The role also involves following up with patients at designated intervals, notifying them of test results, and mentoring staff to promote positive patient interactions. The Medical Assistant Lead ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies and that treatment areas are stocked appropriately. Other duties may be assigned as required, making this a dynamic and essential role within the healthcare team.
