This role encompasses both administrative and clinical tasks, including patient interaction, vital sign measurement, and assisting with examinations and procedures. The position is contingent and requires a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients upon arrival
  • Obtain and record patient medical histories and vital signs
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during exams
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by a physician
  • Perform basic lab tests and collect/prep lab specimens
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage medical records
  • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and handle patient correspondence
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and exam rooms
  • Provide patient education and instructions on medical procedures or care
  • Assist in minor surgical procedures and wound care
  • Manage inventory and order medical supplies as needed
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maintain patient confidentiality

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) or equivalent experience
  • At least one year of experience working as a medical assistant
  • Proficient in phlebotomy, EKG, and vaccination administration
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pediatric patients
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care
  • EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience
  • Problem-solving skills
