About the position
The Medical Assistant position at Henry Ford Health involves providing direct support to healthcare providers and ensuring quality patient care in a family medicine setting. This role encompasses both administrative and clinical tasks, including patient interaction, vital sign measurement, and assisting with examinations and procedures. The position is contingent and requires a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients upon arrival
- Obtain and record patient medical histories and vital signs
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during exams
- Administer medications and injections as directed by a physician
- Perform basic lab tests and collect/prep lab specimens
- Schedule patient appointments and manage medical records
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and handle patient correspondence
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and exam rooms
- Provide patient education and instructions on medical procedures or care
- Assist in minor surgical procedures and wound care
- Manage inventory and order medical supplies as needed
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) or equivalent experience
- At least one year of experience working as a medical assistant
- Proficient in phlebotomy, EKG, and vaccination administration
- Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills

- Experience with pediatric patients
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care
- EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience
- Problem-solving skills
