About the position
The Medical Assistant position at MSO - Texas Bone & Joint involves providing clinical expertise to ensure high-quality, efficient care for patients. Responsibilities
- Scheduling and canceling patient appointments
- Checking-in and checking-out patients
- Entering charges and payments
- Answering the telephone
- Verifying patient insurance and demographics
- Collection of co-payments/coinsurance and personal balances
- Performing selected administrative duties and assisting nursing staff
- Collecting patient specimens
- Taking patient histories and vital signs
- Preparing exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Giving injections, and applying casts, splints, and dressings, as applicable
- Preparing and maintaining supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Assisting physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
- Coordinating continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities
- Participating on a team for data collection, health outcomes reporting, audits and programmatic evaluation related to Patient Centered Medical Home
Requirements
- One year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
- Medical Assistant Certification (NCRMA certification/ABR required)
- Acceptable certifications include RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or OE credentials
- Medical Assistants who recently graduated must obtain certification within 60 days of employment
- Candidates with one year of experience without certification must obtain certification within one year of hire date
