About the position

The Medical Assistant in Family Medicine at Sutter Health provides essential clinical and clerical support to healthcare providers and the patient care team. This role is focused on ensuring high-quality patient care through various back office and patient-related tasks, while also facilitating smooth workflow within the department. The Medical Assistant will work under the direction of a clinician and is expected to integrate education, technical skills, and patient interaction to foster cooperation from patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and clerical support to healthcare providers and patient care teams.
• Assist in implementing the medical plan of care for patients.
• Perform back office tasks to support the delivery of patient care.
• Ensure smooth patient workflow within the department.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program as specified by the Medical Board of California or equivalent Sutter Health training.
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required.
• MA Certification by a California Medical Board recognized agency is required for incentive eligibility (to be implemented in 2025).
• 1 year of recent relevant experience in a medical assisting role.
• General knowledge of medical procedures, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
• Competent in basic Medical Assisting skills such as taking vital signs and preparing patients for exams.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
