About the position

The Medical Assistant at Palmetto Adult Medicine plays a crucial role in supporting physicians by providing direct patient care and ensuring efficient clinic operations. This position involves assessing patient needs, performing various medical procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records, all while promoting a positive patient experience and adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician in assessing patient needs through history, observation, and physical exams.
  • Perform direct patient care including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, and patient education.
  • Collect and document pertinent patient information such as vital signs and chief complaints.
  • Prepare and scan necessary documents into the patient's medical record.
  • Perform specialized tests such as electrocardiography and pulmonary function tests as needed.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Assist the provider with treatments and procedures as needed.
  • Schedule testing and referral appointments for patients as instructed by the provider.
  • Consult with patients via telephone to address problems or refer calls to the physician.
  • Perform follow-up calls to patients as necessary.
  • Clean and straighten examination rooms according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of necessary instruments in examination rooms.
  • Set up and maintain medical equipment, notifying management of malfunctions.
  • Maintain medical supply inventory and check expiration dates on medications and vaccines.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of all equipment needed for duties.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments as necessary.
  • Assist patients in signing up for MyChart and encourage its use for communication.
  • Promote a climate conducive to learning and participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Project a positive image of the practice and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Basic Life Support CPR certification required.
