About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant at Healogics plays a crucial role in providing and coordinating clinical and non-clinical services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Provider. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including patient intake, data collection, clerical duties, and assisting in wound care management, all aimed at improving patient outcomes in wound care services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-certification duties including receiving referrals, verifying patient coverage, and communicating with providers and insurance companies.
  • Assist the RN or LPN/LVN during patient intake and discharge processes, including collecting and recording vital signs and other health data.
  • Take wound photography and measurements, and track observed responses to treatment.
  • Record care given and report any unusual observations or changes in patient condition.
  • Collect specimens as requested and assist in vein clinic duties after training.
  • Track patient visit information and enter documentation into database systems or paper forms.
  • Handle insurance recertifications and document authorization information.
  • Perform Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy related duties after completing required training.
  • Complete unit tasks such as cleaning exam areas and processing sterile instruments.
  • Assist with clerical services such as answering phones, greeting patients, and scheduling appointments.
  • Coordinate patient ancillary testing with other hospital departments and maintain patient charts.
  • Communicate regularly with payors and document outcomes, addressing customer concerns as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program approved by CAAHEP or ABHES.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, maintained throughout employment.
  • Six months of related experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in wound care or similar fields.
