About the position

The Medical Assistant for Gender Pathways at Kaiser Permanente plays a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare services to patients. This part-time position involves both clinical and administrative support, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care in alignment with the organization's mission and values. The role requires a blend of direct patient interaction and behind-the-scenes tasks to facilitate efficient healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize patients' office visits by ensuring all necessary tests and clinical information are ready for clinician review.
  • Collect pertinent subjective and objective data related to patients' reasons for visits.
  • Utilize standardized tools to identify and address health maintenance gaps with patients.
  • Recognize and report signs and symptoms of common medical illnesses to clinicians.
  • Prepare patients for visits or procedures and ensure exam rooms are stocked and clean.
  • Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed by clinicians.
  • Document all pertinent data and outcomes of patient care in KP HealthConnect and other information systems.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, therapies, and procedures within the scope of authorized duties.
  • Maintain and adjust clinicians' patient schedules for efficient patient flow.
  • Respond to incoming messages and requests from patients or other departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Kaiser Permanente's Medication Administration Competency Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computers and keyboarding.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical assistant position in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Familiarity with documenting in an electronic medical record system.
