About the position
The Medical Assistant in General Surgery at Jefferson Health plays a crucial role in supporting physicians during patient assessments, examinations, and treatments. This full-time position involves managing patient flow, performing diagnostic procedures, and ensuring patient satisfaction while adhering to HIPAA regulations. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintaining clinical supplies and documentation within established IT systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians in assessing, examining, and treating patients.
- Manage patient flow and perform various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and taking vitals.
- Act as a liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Maintain and order supplies for the clinical area as needed.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper identification.
- Document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
- Remain proficient in the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems.
- Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program for NJ applicants.
Nice-to-haves
