About the position

The Medical Assistant in General Surgery will support healthcare providers in an ambulatory setting by facilitating patient visits, performing routine laboratory tests, managing referrals, and contributing to quality outcomes. This role emphasizes collaboration, communication, and participation in quality initiatives to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider with patient visits and procedures.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for patient use, including cleaning and stocking supplies.
  • Room patients and manage the efficient flow of the provider's caseload.
  • Obtain necessary vital signs, EKGs, and specimen collections.
  • Document care using the EPIC EMR system.
  • Perform Point of Care Testing based on patient complaints and protocols.
  • Process referrals and medication refills.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, providers, and staff.

Requirements

  • Diploma from a Medical Assistant program or a high school diploma with 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a physician practice.
  • Medical Assistant certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude toward problem-solving.
  • Ability to collaborate with others in a team setting.
