About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant - Hep C position at the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) involves providing essential patient care services under the supervision of healthcare providers. The role is critical in ensuring that patient care is safe, effective, and clinically appropriate, while also supporting the smooth operation of the medical department within a correctional facility. The position requires a commitment to public service and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient care services within the scope of licensure and as delegated by the licensed practitioner or Registered Nurse.
  • Provide assistance in all direct delivery of patient care by the Provider, including vital signs, visual acuity exams, injections, basic laboratory functions, and respiratory assessments.
  • Observe, document, and report patient history and relevant data to the practitioner or Registered Nurse.
  • Recognize and report abnormal vitals and labs.
  • Carry out licensed practitioners' orders in a timely manner.
  • Monitor patient's condition following procedures and report any urgent problems to the licensed practitioner or Registered Nurse.
  • Respond to emergencies by providing emergency medical care, including CPR and basic life support.
  • Attend briefings from off-going staff for pertinent clinical information and brief on-coming staff as appropriate.
  • Monitor patient flow in the outpatient clinic to ensure timely care and efficient operations.
  • Prepare exam rooms for each patient, including medical records and instruments, to expedite patient flow.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant-Certified program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or CAHEA.
  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support and Basic First Aid from the American Heart Association.
  • Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Initial and unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and adjust work schedule as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with both front and back-office operations in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Experience in quality improvement processes.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy.
  • Experience managing a database and tracking data over time.
