About the position

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant I Float to provide comprehensive reproductive health care services across multiple health centers in Los Angeles. This full-time position requires excellent clinical and customer service skills, with responsibilities spanning both front and back office functions. The ideal candidate will assist patients with testing, screening, and education, ensuring a non-judgmental and empathetic approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Medical Assistant front and back office functions.
  • Assist patients by providing testing, screening, and education for reproductive health care.
  • Obtain medical history and ensure informed consent from clients.
  • Assist with the Patient Portal Enrollment process.
  • Obtain vital signs such as blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Accompany clients during procedures as necessary.
  • Assist nurses and clinicians with various tasks.
  • Provide pregnancy testing and options counseling.
  • Complete daily quality control logs and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms.
  • Comply with infection control, safety, and emergency guidelines.
  • Greet and assist all patients and visitors, both in-person and by telephone.
  • Schedule, reschedule, cancel, or confirm patient appointments.
  • Register patients and compile complete and accurate information.
  • Accept and process cash payments according to established guidelines.
  • Verify insurance coverage and determine patient eligibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • At least one to two years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong cultural background experience with Black communities preferred.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including Saturdays.
  • Venipuncture and Injection training to be completed within one year of employment.
  • Reproductive health care experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of surgical services preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with or familiarity with Black communities.
  • Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STIs, pregnancy, adoption, early prenatal care.
