The Medical Assistant at Yuma Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role in providing medical assistance and administrative support within a clinic setting. The role requires knowledge of age-specific factors to perform duties safely and effectively, while maintaining job-specific competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct assistance to healthcare providers for patient care within the medical assistant scope of practice.
  • Measures and records vital signs and notifies licensed healthcare providers of changes in patient condition.
  • Records patient interview, history, chief complaint, and medication reconciliation.
  • Documents current immunizations and performs routine screening tests.
  • Assists providers with exams and performs basic lab tests, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and specimen collection.
  • Prepares and administers medications with provider authorization.
  • Performs front desk reception duties, including answering phones and scheduling appointments.
  • Greets patients, completes registration forms, and provides instructions.
  • Files and maintains medical and financial records, processes mail, and arranges for hospital admissions and outside referrals.
  • Authorizes prescription refills and provides information to pharmacies under provider supervision.
  • Implements appropriate infection control measures as per YRMC Infection Control Protocol.
  • Arranges exam/treatment rooms for clinics/procedures and maintains medical inventory in exam rooms.
  • Uses appropriate cleaning techniques between patients and maintains supplies, linens, equipment, and stocks instruments.
  • Provides patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Ensures accurate, legal, and ethical documentation in YRMC electronic health record.
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Medical Assistant Credential
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance
