About the position

The Medical Assistant I at Brigham & Women's Hospital is responsible for ensuring the efficiency of patient flow within the practice. This role involves direct patient interaction, assisting with medical procedures, and performing various clinical tasks to support healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and escort them to exam rooms.
  • Assist with routine and complex medical procedures as needed.
  • Take vital signs, perform phlebotomy, and obtain EKGs when appropriate.
  • Determine the reason for patient visits and flag urgent responses.
  • Provide patient education and counseling under supervision.
  • Receive test results and communicate follow-up information to patients.
  • Assist with various procedures like blood pressure checks and suture removals under supervision.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and schedule appointments as needed.
  • Transport patients and supplies within the hospital as requested.
  • Clean instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
  • Operate sterilizers and maintain sterilizer competencies.
  • Maintain patient rooms and manage supply inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Certification Program or demonstrated knowledge of required competencies.
  • 1-2 years of prior clinical experience, preferably in an Ambulatory setting.
  • Must not currently hold a valid nursing license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems.
