About the position

The Medical Assistant II position at UTHealth Houston involves providing essential support in the delivery of patient care within the Neurology Clinic. The role focuses on ensuring quality patient interactions, assisting physicians, and managing various clinical tasks to enhance patient experience and care efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
  • Effectively participate in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available.
  • Room patients, determining and documenting chief complaint, vital signs, medication list, allergies, and other required information.
  • Keep patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments.
  • Perform appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, and other requested procedures as required.
  • Prepare and stock rooms and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visits and clean rooms appropriately between patients.
  • Assist with routine and specialty procedures and schedule patients for follow-up appointments or referrals.
  • Perform routine clerical duties including photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
  • Respond to emergency situations and maintain privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program or one year of related experience.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA) may be required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting physician notes and completing forms for FMLA, Workers Comp & insurance.
