About the position

The Medical Assistant II in the Pulmonary department at Mount Sinai provides essential clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons, ensuring quality patient care. This role involves performing various patient care tasks, assisting with procedures, and managing clerical responsibilities, all while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and EKGs as needed.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist them as needed.
  • Collect and process specimens and conduct point of care testing.
  • Prepare examination rooms and instruments according to sterilization techniques.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures and take vital signs.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls with pertinent information.
  • Send and receive patient medical records and obtain lab/x-ray reports.
  • Complete forms and requisitions, managing charts to ensure information is filed appropriately.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record EPIC system and prepare prescription refill requests.
  • Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for safety against exposure to hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts and perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients.
  • Provide training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • 2+ years experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist.
  • BCLS certification from AHA or Red Cross.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in specialized areas such as pulmonary testing, surgery, or cardiology.
