About The Position

The Medical Assistant III at Laguna Beach Family Medicine plays a crucial role in maintaining a professional environment and ensuring effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. This position involves assisting with non-clinical tasks to facilitate patient access and flow, including scheduling appointments, managing pre-authorization processes, and ensuring all necessary records and tests are completed prior to patient visits or surgeries.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program or one year previous medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare system.
• Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Minimum one (1) year previous medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare system.
• Working knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
• Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a highly professional environment for patient interactions.
• Assist with scheduling follow-up office visits, imaging, and lab work.
• Prepare appropriate chart elements for patient appointments.
• Manage the pre-authorization process for patient services.
• Act as a liaison between providers and patients to ensure clear communication.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure all proper records are received before appointments or surgeries.
• Provide updates to staff and patients regarding timing and status of appointments and tests.
• Ensure even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.
