About the position

The Medical Assistant Instructor position at Pima Medical Institute involves teaching and guiding students in the Medical Assistant program. The instructor is responsible for implementing lesson plans, evaluating student performance, and coordinating practical experiences such as externships and community service. This part-time role requires a blend of teaching, administrative duties, and student support to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans for students, including scheduled activities and materials of modules.
  • Plan instruction to achieve specific objectives based on student needs and established curriculum.
  • Evaluate student performance regarding achievements in curriculum and activities, making necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Maintain student attendance and grades in accordance with established policies.
  • Prepare final grades at the end of each module to update student records and transcripts.
  • Arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and medical offices.
  • Prepare lectures and practical demonstrations for students in class and individually.
  • Assist and advise students with the Medical Assistant program curriculum.
  • Assist with the inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate externships for Medical Assistant students.
  • Monitor students in the classroom and ensure safety precautions are adhered to.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA.
  • Three years of occupational experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Four years of job-related training and experience for instructors not graduated from an accredited program.
  • Current medical assistant registration or certification through a nationally recognized certifying agency (CMA or RMA).
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and general computer skills.
