About the position

The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) at La Clinica de La Raza plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient patient flow and quality care within the clinic. This position involves performing all duties of a Medical Assistant while also serving as a resource for non-licensed staff. The LMA collaborates with a diverse healthcare team to provide comprehensive care, guiding and directing the work of medical assistants to enhance patient-centered care and improve overall clinic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of a Medical Assistant while overseeing non-licensed staff.
  • Coordinate medical assistant activities to ensure smooth clinic flow.
  • Assist, advise, and orient medical assistants to meet section goals.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner to maintain quality care.
  • Assess staffing needs and maintain medical assistants' schedules.
  • Participate in hiring and orientation of new staff members.
  • Ensure medical assistant staff is oriented to clinic procedures and protocols.
  • Work on quality improvement projects and participate in medical department meetings.
  • Handle patient complaints regarding medical assistants and troubleshoot issues.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and set up medical laboratory equipment for patient examinations.
  • Administer health questionnaires and verify the purpose of patient visits.
  • Perform routine medical tasks and procedures, including vital signs and specimen collection.
  • Coordinate patient flow to maximize access and service.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by a provider.
  • Provide patient education and follow-up care instructions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare delivery setting or 6 months experience as a Medical Assistant at La Clinica required.
  • Completion of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Phlebotomy Certification required.
  • Health clearances and immunization records required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (or other languages) as required to meet the needs of the patient population.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient care.
