About the position

The Medical Assistant II in the Float Pool at Sutter Health provides essential clinical and clerical support to healthcare providers and the patient care team. This role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care by performing various back office and patient-related tasks. The Medical Assistant integrates education, technical skills, and patient interaction to foster cooperation and confidence among patients and their families, while also assisting in implementing medical plans of care under clinician supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and clerical support to healthcare providers and patient care teams.
• Perform back office and patient-related tasks to support high-quality patient care delivery.
• Assist in implementing the medical plan of care as directed by clinicians.
• Ensure smooth patient workflow within the department.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program as specified by the Medical Board of California or equivalent Sutter Health training.
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required.
• MA Certification by a California Medical Board recognized agency is required for incentive eligibility (to be implemented in 2025).
• 1 year of recent relevant experience in a medical assisting role.
• General knowledge of medical procedures, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
• Competent in basic Medical Assisting skills such as taking vital signs and administering injections.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly.
• Well-developed time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
