About the position

St. Anthony Medical Centers is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) to join our community clinic located in Hollywood, Los Angeles. This full-time position is crucial for ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care and service. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support both the clinical and administrative functions of the clinic. This role requires a proactive individual who can handle a high volume of calls, manage patient inquiries, and maintain accurate patient records. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and staff. In this position, the Medical Assistant will answer high volume calls and document all call information according to standard operating procedures. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and providing patients with service information. The Medical Assistant will also enter new patient information into the system, update existing patient records, process orders and patient requests, and identify and escalate priority issues as necessary. Additionally, the role involves routing calls to the appropriate resources and following up with patient calls to ensure their needs are met. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the clinic's operations. The Medical Assistant will work an 8-hour shift from Monday to Friday, contributing to a collaborative team environment focused on patient care. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, an active listener, and has a strong background in customer service, particularly in a healthcare setting. Candidates with previous experience in a healthcare call center or customer service environment will be preferred, as well as those familiar with EMR systems and vital signs monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Answer high volume calls and document all call information according to standard operating procedures.
  • Schedule appointments and verify insurance eligibility.
  • Handle customer inquiries both telephonically and in person.
  • Provide patients with service information.
  • Enter new patient information into the system and update existing patient information.
  • Process orders and patient requests.
  • Identify and escalate priority issues.
  • Route calls to the appropriate resource when necessary and follow up with patient calls.
  • Contact patients as needed for follow-up and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be bilingual (Spanish).
  • Ability to type quickly.
  • Ability to properly answer the phone.
  • Strong data entry skills.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare call center or customer service environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of administration and clerical processes.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Active listener.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with EMR systems (1 year preferred).
  • Experience with vital signs (1 year preferred).
  • BLS Certification (preferred).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (preferred).
