About the position
The Medical Assistant (MA) position at American Health Network, part of Optum, involves providing essential support in a family practice setting. The role focuses on preparing examination rooms, assisting with patient care, and managing administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations within the healthcare facility. This position offers a structured schedule with no evening, weekend, or holiday shifts, allowing for a balanced work-life environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare examination rooms and sterilize equipment.
- Room patients, obtain health history, check vital signs, and perform EKGs.
- Administer injections and collect specimens.
- Document patient care using NextGen electronic medical record software.
- Schedule appointments, complete prior authorizations, process medication refills, handle referrals, answer calls, and complete paperwork.
- Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with minor, in-office procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Medical Assistant Certification (CMA or RMA) or willingness to attain certification within 9 months of start date.
- Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate, or certification OR 1+ years of experience performing critical skills of a medical assistant after on-the-job training OR current enrollment in an accredited medical assistant training program OR active EMT certification accredited.
Nice-to-haves
- CPR certification.
- Additional healthcare certifications including ARRT, CEHRS, CBCS, CMAA, CPT.
- EMR/EHR experience.
- Experience working as a Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician.
- Experience with NextGen medical record software.
- Experience with medical front office and back office duties including vitals, phlebotomy, injections, casting/splinting, administering medications, referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance verifications.
