About the position

The Medical Assistant position is a critical role within our clinic, which serves over 100 patients daily. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist in the efficient operation of the clinic by performing various clinical tasks, including blood draws and venipuncture. The Medical Assistant will be expected to draw 1-5 tubes of blood from each patient, ensuring a high level of care and professionalism. The position requires expertise in preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Medical Assistant will work closely with healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive the best possible care during their visits. In addition to clinical duties, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for administrative tasks such as tracking and monitoring department-specific data, explaining policies and procedures to patients, and setting up exam and procedure rooms according to patient needs. The role also involves cleaning and reprocessing equipment and supplies in accordance with department guidelines, as well as administering immunizations, injections, or oral medications as directed by the provider. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and the ability to navigate medical insurance and referral processes effectively. The ideal candidate will have a Medical Assistant Certificate or Diploma from a DAPIP accredited program or national certification through recognized organizations. A minimum of one year of experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic or medical office setting is required, with preference given to candidates with additional experience in specific specialties or with phlebotomy certification. The role is located in Tarzana, CA, with float locations in North Hollywood and Tarzana, requiring local candidates within a 50-minute commute.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and take appropriate vital signs, including blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
  • Review current medications and record them in the medical record.
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring department-specific data.
  • Explain policies, procedures, or services to patients based on scope of practice.
  • Set up exam/procedure rooms appropriate to the patient visit needs.
  • Clean and re-process equipment and supplies following department guidelines.
  • Administer immunizations, injections, or oral medications as directed by the provider.
  • Draw and prepare designated lab work or specimens as directed by the provider.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from a DAPIP accredited program OR national certification through AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, or MMCI.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting patient history summaries.
  • 1 year working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic or medical office setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years working as a Medical Assistant in a specific specialty.
  • Experience with CS-Link/Epic.
  • Phlebotomy certification (highly preferred).
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Experience with medical insurance, referral processes, and benefit plans.
  • Experience with Quest Diagnostic laboratory submissions.
