About the position

The Medical Assistant position at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission involves providing essential support to healthcare providers in delivering medical care to clinic patients. This role is crucial in maintaining high standards of customer service during all patient interactions. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for performing various tasks and responsibilities that fall within the framework of supportive and restorative care, all under the guidance of the clinic physician. The position requires a multitasking individual who can effectively manage healthcare services while recognizing patient conditions that are vital for the successful execution of their duties. In this role, the Medical Assistant will be expected to complete medical documentation accurately and promptly upon patient intake, adhering to established standards for documentation, including specific procedures such as mammograms and colonoscopies. The MA will also be responsible for administering immunizations and utilizing computer software for patient documentation, ensuring that all necessary information is communicated to patients as needed. Additionally, the Medical Assistant must follow policies and procedures regarding patient medications and testing, including refilling medications according to established protocols. Electronic communication with patients is also a part of the role, in line with the clinic's policy standards. The position is full-time, with a schedule from Monday to Friday, typically from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, although hours may vary. The Medical Assistant will work at the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission facility, which is dedicated to providing whole-person care and a wide range of medical services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider in the delivery of medical care to clinic patients.
  • Maintain high customer service skills with all patient interactions.
  • Complete medical documentation accurately and thoroughly upon patient intake.
  • Administer immunizations as required.
  • Utilize computer software for patient documentation and communication.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for patient medications and testing.
  • Refill patient medications according to established protocols.
  • Engage in electronic communications with patients as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • MA Certification required from approved credentialing bodies.
  • Customer Service / Patient Focus experience is essential.
  • BLS Certification obtained through the American Heart Association.
