About the position

The Medical Assistant in the Medicine Unit at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is responsible for providing sub-professional clinical and administrative support in a healthcare delivery setting. This full-time position involves assisting healthcare practitioners, managing patient records, and ensuring the healthcare delivery areas are organized and well-stocked. The role requires a blend of clerical duties and direct patient care, making it essential for candidates to have experience in a patient care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the telephone and greet patients.
  • Update and file patient medical records.
  • Fill out insurance forms and handle correspondence.
  • Schedule appointments and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
  • Verify patients' third-party coverage and communicate with them as necessary.
  • Prepare patients for routine examinations, including obtaining and recording vital signs.
  • Assist practitioners in delivering healthcare services, treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Perform EKGs, collect blood and urine samples, and conduct vision and audio testing.
  • Ensure healthcare delivery areas are stocked, organized, clean, and disinfected.
  • Assist with cleaning and sterilization of equipment.
  • Provide constant visual monitoring for high-risk patients and document appropriately.
  • Instruct employees in resuscitation and life support techniques and maintain training records.
  • Attend continuing education programs and re-certify credentials as required.

Requirements

  • Two years of clerical experience in a patient care setting such as a medical clinic, hospital, or mental health facility.
  • Experience as a nursing assistant can substitute for required experience on a 2:1 basis.
  • A certificate from an accredited medical assistant training program can substitute for one year of required experience.
  • An associate degree from an accredited medical assistant training program can substitute for two years of required experience.
  • College training with nine semester hours in relevant fields can substitute for required experience on a 30:1 basis.
