About the position

The Medical Assistant at the Musculoskeletal Institute of UT Health Austin will act as the primary point of contact for patients throughout their care cycle. This role involves collecting vital signs, conducting patient assessments, and assisting healthcare providers during patient exams. The Medical Assistant will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless patient experience and facilitate their journey through the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and guidance to patients completing pre-clinic surveys.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to identify and schedule patient visits.
  • Follow up with patients who have not completed surveys to address potential barriers.
  • Set patient expectations regarding the team-based model and clinic experience.
  • Attend multidisciplinary case conferences and team huddles to convey patient situations to the team.
  • Attend patient visits as an advocate and combine treatment recommendations into a viable care plan.
  • Establish follow-up care plans based on patient preferences.
  • Facilitate patients' journeys through the healthcare system, including scheduling and referrals.
  • Provide reminders for care plan tasks and support behavior modification.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients in the Integrated Practice Units (IPUs).
  • Refer patients to external services as needed.
  • Assist providers during patient exams, treatments, or procedures.
  • Maintain and restock supplies and equipment in patient exam and treatment rooms.
  • Support educational and research initiatives within the clinic.
  • Participate in the critical evaluation of patient care to improve care pathways.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification to be completed within the first year of hire.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-physician practice environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant with 2 years of experience.
  • Understanding of the care ecosystem in Travis County around social services and transportation.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Additional certifications such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
